Staycation this year – and your dog comes too

With the end now firmly in sight for the lifting of the pandemic restrictions in England, Wight Holiday Lettings here on the Isle of Wight, have seen a huge increase in bookings for the summer and Autumn months.  The Government is encouraging staycations this year and the Isle of Wight is firmly established as one of the top choice destinations for family holidays.

An added attraction of taking your holiday in the UK is that the family pet can come too!  Bookings for pet friendly holidays are well up on previous years right across the board.  Available dates are filling up fast so dog owners wishing to staycation with their beloved friend will need to act fast.

The Pet Food Manufacturer’s Association (PFMA) estimates that over 3.2million UK households have acquired a new pet during the pandemic, which no doubt is playing a key factor in the sudden surges for staycations in self catering accommodation and cottages which also cater to animals.

A staycation is currently the easiest option for first-time pet owners. Not only are there still many uncertainties around foreign travel in Europe, the effects of Brxit mean there are also not to mention that with Brexit there are plenty of new rules for travelling abroad with your pets.  This link gives you a useful quick summary courtesy of The Daily Mirror.

Just to show what a nation of dog lovers we are, recent research conducted by a pet food brand found that 85% of dog owners would rather opt for UK holidays than go abroad and leave their beloved pooch back home.

You can find a selection of dog friendly accommodation on our website.  We hope you have a great holiday – that’s both you and your dog!
